Welders Achieve ‘Certified Welder’ Industry Credential from the American Welding Society
Under the guidance of senior welding instructor Mr. Loren Harthshorn and junior instructor Mr. Chuck Ballard, all fifteen of the senior welding students successfully achieved their “Certified Welder” Industry credential from the American Welding Society (AWS). This credential is a performance-based program that tests welders on procedures used in the structural steel, petroleum pipelines, sheet metal, and chemical refinery welding industries. This program allows welders to obtain multiple certifications to expand credentials all around. To learn more about the program and certificate process, see their website.
The credential also earns students a 12-point industry credential from the Ohio Department of Education that can be used to meet high school graduation requirements. Seniors were tested in January, which is three months earlier than previous years, allowing them to earn their credentials before beginning early work placements. To prepare for the earlier test date, students worked extra hard after returning from winter break.
