Team qualifies for State SkillsUSA Competition

We had 17 students from SHCC participate in the SkillsUSA Southeast Ohio Regional Competition at the Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia, OH. SkillsUSA Ohio is a non-profit association whose mission is to “empower its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens.” SkillsUSA Ohio focuses on improving the American workforce through skills training and increasing employability. 

The 2020 SHCC team had close to 30% more participation than in 2019. The students competed in 3 events: Welding, Teamworks, and the Health Knowledge Bowl. In total, there were 20 different career centers from Southeast Ohio who participated in this competition: 

The Opening and Closing team qualified for the State SkillsUSA competition in Columbus, and students also qualified for State in Welding Sculpture, Automotive Maintenance, Teamworks, Heavy Equipment, and Manufacturing Fabrication. 

In addition, Max Danaher received a $5,000 scholarship to Central Ohio Technical College for participating in SkillsUSA.
