Remote learning extended through the end of the school year

Posted on: April 24, 2020

As expected, Governor DeWine recently announced that Ohio schools will continue remote learning through the end of the school year to slow the spread of the coronavirus. This means that students will not be returning to their buildings this year. This also means that all school-related activities, like sports, extracurriculars, and other events will be canceled.

We understand that this announcement creates additional questions. As we work through how we will address these, we will be sending additional information.

For right now, here are a few important points to keep in mind:

  • Remote learning will continue through our last scheduled day of school, which is May 28. We understand that remote learning cannot replace the in-person experience. However, it is our only option available at this time. It is important that children continue to learn so they can get off to a great start in the 2020-21 school year. We continue to ask for a patient, good-faith effort from all our students, parents, and teachers.
  • We will continue meal pickups at the various locations around the district. You can find a list of locations and pickup times here: https://sk12.org/news/meal-pickups-available-for-all-switzerland-students/
  • School district buildings and facilities are closed. If you need to access a building for any reason, contact the building office.
  • Class of 2020. We understand this is a difficult time for our seniors. We are developing plans to honor our seniors in a way that is safe and also aligns with guidelines from the Ohio Department of Educations. Please be patient as we finalize these plans. We will have information to you soon about not only senior graduation, but also recognition for kindergarten and 8th grade.

Please be on the lookout in the coming days for more information about the extended closure and end-of-year procedures.
