In early March, the Swiss Hills Career Center Medical Technologies students visited the West Liberty University Health Sciences Department to learn more about opportunities for degrees in dental hygiene.

Students received a free dental cleaning during the visit where they learned about the profession, education requirements, and employment opportunities within the region. Students also had an opportunity to tour the Physicians Assistant Program at West Liberty University and learn about career opportunities in that field as well.

Recently, we have all seen first-hand how important the medical profession is. This is also a growing field that can lead to a wide variety of professional opportunities for students. Before and excluding COVID-19, Ohio’s healthcare community and support system have been incredibly healthy and vibrant. Ohio has more than 4,100 bioscience companies in the state, employing about 80,000 bioscientists, excluding healthcare providers. To read more about Ohio’s healthcare ecosystem, click here

Ohio is a nationally-recognized state for medical care, which also makes this an attractive industry for students. In 2019-20, Ohio was recognized numerous times in the U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals: National Ranking,” including, but not limited to:

  • #2 General Hospital: Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH
  • #2 Children’s Hospital: Cincinnati Children’s, Cincinnati, OH
  • #7 Children’s Hospital: Nationwide Children’s, Columbus, OH
  • #1 Cardiology & Heart Surgery: Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH
  • #3 Ear, Nose, & Throat: Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center: Columbus, OH
  • #3 Gynecology: Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH
  • #2 Rheumatology: Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH
