House Bill 67 changes testing dates & graduation requirements

On March 20, Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill (HB) 67, which provides flexibility on testing and graduation requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. Because HB 67 includes an emergency clause, the legislation is effective immediately.
Following are the major components of HB 67 that may be relevant to your student(s):

Students will not have to take the end-of-course American History exam for the 2020-2021 school year.

In certain situations, 11th and 12th-grade students can use the final course grade in place of end-of-course exams for the 2020-2021 school year.

Permits school districts to grant a high school diploma in the 2020-2021 school year to any student on track to graduate and for whom the principal, in consultation with teachers and counselors, determines has successfully completed the high school curriculum or individualized education program.

Permits students to qualify for high school diploma by successfully completing the curriculum requirements and earning the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal.

Expands spring testing dates as follows:

For online assessments:
-
English language arts for all grades -- March 22, 2021, to May 7, 2021;

Mathematics, science, and social studies for all grades -- March 29, 2021, to May 21, 2021.

For paper format testing:
-
Third-grade English language arts assessment -- March 22, 2021, to April 23, 2021;
-
English language arts assessment for grades 4-12 -- March 22, 2021, to April 20, 2021;
-
Mathematics, science, and social studies for all grades -- March 29, 2021, to May 14, 2021.
