Beallsville's Rally for Life Raises Thousands for Local Families

Posted on: February 7, 2020

One of Switzerland School District’s best events is in full swing. For a decade, students at Beallsville High School have held an annual, year-long event called the Rally for Life to raise money for local families who have overcome cancer and other hardships. This is the 10th year for the Rally for Life, and it looks to be the biggest one yet.

“Our biggest Rally for Life raised over $42,000 last year,” Principal Casey Tolzda. “We’re already at $25,000 halfway through this year, so this could be our new record.”

The Rally for Life consists of multiple events and fundraisers throughout the school year. So far this year, Beallsville students have organized cookoffs, school stores, and a variety of other events to raise money.“It’s all student-organized, which is one of the best things about the Rally for Life,” Tolzda added. “Staff provides input, but the students are responsible for planning and organizing the fundraising events. It’s a great experience for them to learn about helping others.”

The Rally for Life culminates in a day-long event in mid-May filled with games, music, and other fun activities. At that event, checks are presented to the local families selected by the Rally for Life Committee.

“We support families who need help from all over Monroe County, not just here in Beallsville,” said Tolzda. “Rally for Life day is everyone’s favorite day of the school year. It’s really an amazing event.”
